Troubleshooting



What may I do if the recorder takes doesn't load properly?


  1. First, close and restart your browser.
  2. Make sure the latest versions of Flash and Java are correctly installed and enabled on your computer.
  3. Test your Java installation on http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
  4. The service may need some validations the first time ScreenToaster is executed on your computer (Firewall configuration, Java certificates...).
  5. If it still doesn't work, contact us at contact@screentoaster.com. Don't forget to send us your username and the approximative date/time of the bug alongside its description.

How to enable Java on Firefox?


  1. In your Firefox browser, choose "Tools" on the Toolbar.
  2. Click on "Options" then choose the "Contents" tab.
  3. Click on "Enable Java"

What does the message "Could not start the hotkey system" mean?


The message "Could not start the hotkey system" warns you that you may encounter problems with the hotkeys.

This problem happens when you launch the recorder twice in two different windows.


  1. Close one of the window.
  2. Refresh the other one.
  3. Click on "Record" to restart the recorder.
  4. Record your screencast.

My hotkeys (ALT + S) don't work, what shall I do now?


  1. First of all, make sure "Capslock" is not activated.
  2. On Firefox, the ALT + S shortcuts may interfere with default shortcuts.
  3. The message "Could not start the hotkey system" may appear if you launch the recorder twice in two different windows.
  4. Close one of the window and refresh the the other one.

What may I do if, when finished recording, my video takes hours to be uploaded?


You may encounter problems during the publication process if you upload more than 20 MegaBytes.

Try to record shorter videos or choose "rectangulare area" to record just a portion of your screen.
